Dundee Football Club secured a 2-1 victory over Motherwell at Dens Park on Saturday. The win lifts the Dark Blues to fourth place in the Scottish Premiership with 10 points from seven matches.
Joe Westley opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute. Bradley Fink doubled the advantage 17 minutes later, finishing from close range after a Ryan Astley assist. Motherwell pulled a goal back just before half-time through Alex Lowry, but Dundee's defence held firm after the break to claim the three points.
Manager James Christie made two changes to his starting line-up. Callum Jones made his first league appearance of the season, while Jack Moorhouse was handed his first start for the club. They replaced Fin Robertson and Ryan Finnigan in a 4-4-2 formation.
Westley’s penalty, his third goal of the campaign, settled early nerves. Fink’s strike, his second in two games, gave the home side a commanding lead. Motherwell responded instantly, with Lowry scoring in the 44th minute to ensure a tense second half.
Dundee managed the game effectively after the interval. Goalkeeper Owen Goodman was booked for time-wasting as the clock ran down. The final whistle brought relief to the 5,318 fans inside Dens Park.
James Christie said the result was deserved. "The final whistle was met with delight and huge relief that the Dark Blues had held out for three points, which they deserved on balance of chances created," the manager told reporters.
The result continues a patchy run of form for Christie's side, whose last five results read win, loss, draw, loss, win. They have scored nine goals and conceded seven so far this season.
Referee Ross Hardie oversaw the match. Dundee’s unused substitutes included goalkeeper Kieran O’Hara, Matai Akinmboni, Ashton Leiper, Charley Oosenbrugh and Ryan Bland. The team now has a break before travelling to face Falkirk on October 10th.
