Steven Pressley has commended the international recognition given to two players who were formerly at Dundee. The Dundee manager stated that the Scotland selections for Luke Graham and Jon McCracken demonstrate the club's capacity to nurture players.
Pressley shared this news recently. Luke Graham was named in the initial Scotland squad selected by Sebastien Pocognoli for upcoming Nations League games. The defender progressed through the youth system at Dens Park prior to his transfer to Stoke City for a record fee during the off-season.
"He just keeps facing the challenge ahead," said Steven Pressley, the manager.
Graham had temporary spells at Lochee United, Albion Rovers, Montrose, and Falkirk before establishing himself under Pressley in the top flight last term. He has earned his first call-up to the Scotland squad for a Nations League encounter with Slovenia. Graham also participated in training with the national team before the World Cup.
Jon McCracken received a return to the Scotland setup after his summer departure from Dundee to Bradford City. The goalkeeper has kept seven shutouts in his first ten outings for his current side. Central defender Stephen Welsh also earned his maiden Scotland selection.
Pressley recognized the difficulty of filling the void left by players who achieve international status. Dundee saw Luke Graham and Jon McCracken depart, both now representing their country. Owen Goodman is also set to join up with the Canadian national team.
"But again, typical Luke Graham, he responded in the best possible way by performing," Pressley said.
The manager feels that Dundee's track record in advancing the careers of individuals such as Graham and McCracken could assist in drawing other promising players to the club.
