Dundee Football Club are assessing trialists and free agents to address a severe injury crisis that has ruled out captain Simon Murray and midfielder Fin Robertson for the season. Head coach Steven Pressley confirmed the club is actively looking at out-of-contract players to bolster the squad ahead of Saturday's Premiership trip to Falkirk.

The club sits fourth in the Premiership with 10 points from seven games, a position Pressley wants to protect despite the mounting absences. Murray, Jack Moorhouse and Robertson have all sustained anterior cruciate ligament injuries, while a raft of other players remain sidelined.

Club explores trialists and free agents

Pressley said the recruitment team is examining available options. Dundee are expected to field a trialist in a bounce game against Hearts on Thursday as they seek to strengthen creative areas.

"We wanted to use this break to get time on the grass with players we wanted up to speed and to really work with them," Pressley told reporters. He confirmed the club is currently looking and has someone to assess in the free agent market. It is not yet clear if any new faces will be signed before the weekend fixture.

Pressley insists on maintaining intensity

The head coach rejected the idea of easing training loads for his injury-hit squad. He argued that a fitter, more robust player is less likely to suffer long-term problems.

Pressley stated it has been challenging because of the amount of injuries they’ve currently got. He said you can be very protective about players, choose not to risk them, and not train them hard, but that’s just kicking the can down the road and storing up problems. The coach insisted there will be no let up because he wants his Dundee side to play at 100 percent with the pedal to the metal. He wants the team to train the way they play and that won’t change.

Injured players remain positive

Fin Robertson has had his ACL operation, which went well, and he is in good spirits. Robertson and Murray have been around the place and are responding in a positive way, embracing the challenge ahead.

Charlie Reilly is still another week away from being able to do full training with the team. Ryan Finnigan is making good progress but there’s still not a definitive date on his return.

Dundee's recent form reads WLDLW from their last five matches, including a 2-1 win over Motherwell in their last outing. They face Falkirk, who are 11th in the table, this Saturday.
